Steve James is a well known name among devotees of contemporary acoustic folk and blues; this notoriety based on numerous critically acclaimed recordings, a tireless international tour schedule and a sheaf of published work including articles, instruction books and videos. His instrumental versatility (on guitar, slide guitar, mandolin, guitar-banjo) also makes him a favorite at music camps and workshop programs. He's been interviewed for features in Acoustic Guitar, Guitar Player, Blues Revue and Folk Roots (to name a few), and has been heard on "A Prairie Home Companion", The House Of Blues Network and many other syndicated programs worldwide.

Fingerstyle Guitar...Starting with some basic, melodic, bluesy material, the sessions will cover repertoire, picking techniques, blues harmony, chord inversions and a "tool box" of handy blues runs and fills. Bring your guitar; a notebook and a sound recorder also suggested. (No video.) Some tab and handouts supplied (for all Steve's classes).

Slide Guitar...One of the basic voices of the blues...from Furry Lewis to Muddy Waters and beyond...is slide guitar. This presentation will include an introduction to open tunings and the use of a glass or metal slider to play those "blue notes", with an emphasis on some slide guitar "classics".

Blues Mandolin...With and emphasis on learning songs and themes; Steve will cover the basic techniques, runs and harmonic devices used to get a bluesy sound out of your mandolin. From down-home Delta to up-beat boogie, this workshop is all about the blues.

STEVE JAMES...is well known as a touring and recording artist and a prime exponent of roots music on guitar, slide guitar and mandolin. He has extensive teaching experience and has produced instructional books and lessons (Acoustic Guitar/Hal Leonard) and DVDs (Homespun).
